Founded in 1626, Kyoto Rikyuen has been dedicated to producing high-quality tea for 400 years. Located in Asamiya, Shigaraki, Shiga Prefecture, one of Japan’s oldest tea-growing regions, the company carefully selects tea leaves grown at high elevations, where fog, seasonal temperature variations, and cool nights allow the leaves to develop rich aroma, deep flavor, and a smooth astringency.
Using traditional stone-grinding methods and meticulous quality control, Kyoto Rikyuen preserves the authentic taste and fragrance of Uji Matcha, ensuring that every batch meets the highest standards.
Mission: To preserve and share the aesthetic sensibility and spirit of hospitality embodied. by Sen no Rikyu.

What is Real Uji Matcha?
“Uji Matcha” is a protected designation, allowed only for matcha crafted from tea leaves grown and processed in Japan’s officially recognized Uji tea regions, Kyoto, Shiga, Nara, and Mie prefectures in Japan.
The leaves are grown in high-elevation fields with foggy climates and cool nights, which enhance the aroma, flavor, and natural sweetness of the tea. Harvested leaves are carefully processed into tencha and then stone-ground to produce fine, vibrant green matcha powder.
Only about 40% of matcha produced in Japan meets the traditional standards of Uji Matcha, ensuring authenticity and superior quality. Known for its rich aroma, smooth texture, and bright green color, Uji Matcha represents the pinnacle of Japanese tea craftsmanship.
Buyers can rely on consistent, safe, and high-quality matcha for both domestic and international markets.
